After completing the requirements for the learning screen, I have to say I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. While at first I was uncomfortable with the idea of a final project more fine arts-oriented, I actually learned a lot from doing the project this way, as opposed to writing a research paper. It took me outside of my comfort zone; I learned how to do digital image editing and screenwriting on the fly; and I now feel like I have the makings of what could be a really great movie someday. I prefer to express myself using words, so I found it harder to get my point across using images, but as I worked more on the project, I realized that I could articulate things differently, even more effectively, by creating a visual work of art. Though I am glad not all my final projects are this image-oriented, I feel empowered knowing how to express myself through this new medium, and I feel confident in my ability to learn new skills quickly as I go through my academic career.
